Variants of the Plasmodium vivax circumsporozoite protein (VK210 and VK247) in Colombian isolates.
Phenotypic diversity has been described in the central repeated region of the circumsporozoite protein (CSP) from Plasmodium vivax. Two sequences VK210 (common) and VK247 (variant) have been found widely distributed in P. vivax isolates from several malaria endemic areas around the world. A third protein variant called P. vivax-like showing a sequence similar to the simian parasite P. simiooval...

The susceptibility of Anopheles aquasalis (F3 generation) and An. darlingi (F1 generation) to Plasmodium vivax circumsporozoite protein phenotypes from a limited number of blood samples of malaria patients in Belém, state of Pará, Brazil, was examined A polymerase chain reaction was used to determine the P. vivax phenotypes in blood samples and the blood-fed infected mosquitoes were dissected a...
متن کاملChloroquine-Resistant Plasmodium vivax, Brazilian Amazon
To the Editor: Plasmodium vivax is the protozoan that causes the second most common form of malaria. Some resistant strains to chloroquine (CQ) occur in a few places in Asia and the Indo-Pacifi c Region (1–4). Although resistance of P. vivax to CQ has already been described in South Ameri-ca (5–7), there are limited data regarding this issue. CQ plus primaquine is the standard treatment for viv...
متن کاملSevere Plasmodium vivax Malaria, Brazilian Amazon
We describe a case series of 17 patients hospitalized in Manaus (western Brazilian Amazon) with PCR-confirmed Plasmodium vivax infection who were treated with chloroquine and primaquine. The major complications were jaundice and severe anemia. No in vivo chloroquine resistance was detected. These data help characterize the clinical profile of severe P. vivax malaria in Latin America.
متن کاملPlasmodium vivax circumsporozoite variants and Duffy blood group genotypes in the Brazilian Amazon region.
The circumsporozoite protein (CSP) of the Plasmodium vivax infective sporozoite is considered to be a major target for the development of recombinant malaria vaccines. The Duffy blood group molecule acts as the red blood cell receptor for P. vivax. We review the frequency of P. vivax CSP variants and report their association with the Duffy blood group genotypes from Brazilian Amazon patients ca...
